Adarna Group Foundation, Inc. envisions a Philippines where every Filipino child is a reader.
According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), literacy is an essential component of the right to education. It enables people to participate in society, improves child and family health and welfare, and broadens career and life opportunities. Still, the capacity to read remains a privilege: The Second Congressional Committee on Education (EDCOM II) reports that approximately 90% of Filipino children at age 10 are unable to read and understand a simple text. The Commission further highlights that early learning outcomes are deeply affected by conditions during the first 1,000 days of life, with long-term consequences on cognitive development, and that many young children lack access to consistent early stimulation, including exposure to books, storytelling, and responsive caregiving.
These findings affirm AGFI’s long-standing advocacy of promoting reading from the First 1,000 Days through the Second 1,000 Days of life. By aligning its programs in early stimulation and reading readiness, AGFI directly responds to EDCOM II’s call to strengthen the foundations of learning and create a lifelong love for reading.
To date, Adarna Group Foundation, Inc. has provided 52,001 reading materials, supported 4,599 young learners, and capacitated 9,012 learning partners.
OUR VISION
Every Filipino Child a Reader
OUR MISSION
Promotion of early literacy with reading as a focus among 0 to 4 year old Filipino children in partnership with their parents, their LGU and community, and other like minded organizations
Adarna Group Foundation, Inc. is named after the Adarna bird, the mythical creature whose song could cure any affliction. Our logo–an image of this magical bird taking flight, its head turned to see where it came from–is the symbol of our dedication to the legacy of bringing the healing power of reading to Filipino children. And just like the Adarna bird, we look to our roots to give us direction as we take wing.
