AGFI and LBCF: Champions of Early Literacy

Adarna Group Foundation, Inc. (AGFI) would like to thank LBC Hari ng Padala Foundation, Inc. for its unfailing commitment to realize the vision “bawat batang Filipino nakababasa.”

With the help of LBCF, the Foundation expanded its Step by Step programs to more communities this 2022.

Suporta Eskwela

In partnership with LBCF, AHA! Learning Center, and Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation, AGFI implemented its Step by Step: Mahilig Kaming Magbasa program under Suporta Eskwela—a capacity-building initiative that enables partners to be literacy and wellness advocates. By the end of the implementation, the Foundation reached 26 last-mile school communities, and trained 26 teachers on how to develop children’s interest and skill in reading.

LBC-Express volunteers and teachers and parents from Barangays Pamarawan and Vitas joined the Christmas celebration with AGFI and LBCF.

On December 12, AGFI and LBCF went to a partner school community in Malolos, Bulacan to meet and celebrate Christmas with 30 teachers and parents.

Step by Step

Through the generous support of LBCF, AGFI also launched three Step by Step programs in San Clemente and Anao, Tarlac.

To date, Unang Isang Libong Araw and Unang Aklat combined have trained 36 rural health unit staff, and reached 79 pregnant women and 178 families with zero to two-year-old children. The former promotes health, nutrition, and early stimulation during a child’s first 1000 days of life, while the latter champions early literacy and school readiness.

Mayor Elma Macadamia, 14 child development workers, and 10 LBC-Express volunteers graced the mid-program assessment and Christmas celebration in San Clemente, Tarlac.

In addition, Handang Magbasa has supported 34 child development workers (CDWs) in nurturing the reading readiness of hundreds of daycare students. With the program on its halfway mark, AGFI led a mid-program assessment with the CDWs to evaluate their progress and experiences. The organization, together with LBCF, also surprised them with games and gifts as a gesture of appreciation.

The two organizations celebrated National Children's Month and Christmas with 300 grade school students as well. Aside from face painting, magic shows, and party games, each child received a school kit and a loot bag as presents.

Grade school children in San Clemente, Tarlac lined up to receive their food, school kits, and loot bags.

AGFI looks forward to delivering the gift of reading to more Filipino children and families with LBCF in 2023.
