Unang Isang Libong Araw: Bridging Gaps in Early Childhood Health and Nutrition
A 2024 Philippine Institute of Development Studies report has revealed gaps in the country’s early childhood care and development program, some of which are now being addressed by AGFI’s ‘Unang Isang Libong Araw’ (UILA).
UILA focuses on strengthening the health, nutrition, and early stimulation of a child’s crucial first 1000 days. It trains healthcare workers and maximizes health centers as introductory early childhood care providers, to ensure that each child receives the needed support.
Following an April 2024 MOA signing with the local government, UILA training workshops were held in May and June for 53 healthcare workers from 15 facilities in Samal, Bataan. In Bacolod, AGFI partnered with LBC Hari ng Padala Foundation and Kalipay Negrense Foundation to train over 40 participants. These included healthcare workers, teachers, and social workers from Kalipay Negrense Foundation, the Bacolod City local government, and the Negros Occidental provincial government. Workshops covered topics on health practices, nutrition tips, and early literacy tools which the participants are expected to put to good use in their respective communities.
Moving forward, AGFI remains dedicated to monitoring and evaluating the program’s impact. This way, it can keep improving UILA and contributing to a healthier, more equitable future for all Filipino children.
