Magandang Layunin

Adarna Group Foundation, Inc. Brings Step By Step To Two More Bataan Municipalities

A month after securing the commitment of Samal, Adarna Group Foundation, Inc. introduced Step by Step to other municipalities in Bataan Province: Pilar and Abucay.

The foundation presented their plans to launch two of the five programs, Unang Isang Libong Araw and Unang Aklat. Both equip learning partners with the resources to support the early health and nutrition, early stimulation, and early reading of 0-2 year old children.

Those in attendance during the presentations agreed that the programs can make a difference in their respective communities.

Pilar

The team of Adarna Group Foundation, Inc. with Mayor Charlie Pizarro, Jr. and Ms. Tessie Pizarro.

Mayor Charlie Pizarro, Jr. expressed his support to develop Pilarian children’s love of reading through Step by Step. In his words, “Kailangan ng mga bata matuto.” (“Children need to learn.”)

The mayor was initially concerned that the programs might mean additional work for the rural health unit. Adarna Group Foundation, Inc. Executive Director Con Estrella responded, “Step by Step will be integrated into existing local projects and action plans, and the mode of implementation will rely and adjust on the existing health care delivery system.”

Abucay

Mayor Robin Tagle and Abucay healthcare staff and child development workers attended the Step by Step program presentation.

In Abucay, Mayor Robin Tagle entrusted the decision to the people who will ultimately carry Unang Isang Libong Araw and Unang Aklat—the municipal healthcare staff.

Dr. Arlene Canoy had a positive opinion of the programs. “Maganda ang layunin,” (“The purpose is good,”) she praised. The doctor also remarked on their flexibility and added that her colleagues will appreciate the availability of offline learning. According to her, “Kaya naman po in their own time. Idagdag na lang sa current lessons and systems na.” (“It can be done in their own time. Just add it to the current lessons and systems.”)

Step by Step is expected to reach an additional 800 families and 60 healthcare staff in Pilar and Abucay. With the two municipalities on board, Adarna Group Foundation, Inc. needs one more to achieve the goal of taking Step by Step programs to six this 2022. The foundation is set to present to the last local government unit on their list in the coming months.
