The Raya School Practices Bayanihan through Volunteerism

In Filipino culture, Bayanihan embodies the power of community cooperation and helping one another in times of need. The word Bayanihan comes from the root word “bayan”, meaning community or town, and refers to the act of coming together to accomplish a shared goal.

At The Raya School, the spirit of Bayanihan is not just celebrated — it is practiced. The school believes in fostering a deep sense of social responsibility among its students and encourages them to actively contribute to the community. Through community engagement and volunteerism, students are taught that even small actions can lead to significant positive change.

One of the key ways students at The Raya School experience Bayanihan is through their engagement in volunteer initiatives. A recent example was their involvement in AGFI’s community event at Gota de Leche Manila, where students took an active role in organizing and facilitating various activities — from conducting storytelling sessions to leading games and creative activities.

Teaching the value of volunteerism at a young age is essential for shaping individuals. Through this experience, students learn how their contributions can make a difference. While this may seem to be a small initiative, this activity can be their start to developing a lifelong commitment to helping those in need.
